He is the court poet of vikrama chozha,kulothunga the TWO,and Raja raja the TWO.
Sofar his parents names are not known.he was born at malari,the place is near to trichi.today the place is called as thiru erimbiyoor or thiru verumboor.He was the strong follower of Saraswathi cult,(it was given to understand the lordess Saraswathi,once gave a thaamboolam to this poet.)He composed MOOvar Ulaa.
Here the moovar are the above mentioned 3 kings.He composed Thakka yaaga paraNI.ParaNi is the literature on war fare -in this he described the war fare of Lore Shiva and Dhakshan.He composed lot of poems ,He was called as Kavi Raakshasan,having the scholarship over tamizh and samskrit.The chozha kings gave the title as KaaLa kavi,he is a very good historian.He is the first and the foremost poet for the genre piLLai thamzh-the kulothungan piLLai thamizh is the foremost piLLai thamizh in tamizh literature.He is the first poet sung the ulaa literature on human heroes.He is the authority on kovai,ulaa and andhaadhi.He composed koppaththu paraNi,koodal sangamaththu paraNi,kalinga paraNi ,arumbai thoLLaayiram.his contemporaries are KaaLiyar,dhaNdi,pEraasiriyar,kamban,sEkkizhaar and pugazhEndhi.He is belonging to a weaver community-his period is AD 12th century.
